You may apply for U.S. citizenship after a continuous 5 years of residence in the United States. Top

What is the "Green Card" Lottery (Diversity Immigrant Visa Program
)?

The U.S. Government has authorized the allotment of over 50,000 diversity immigrant visas in the "Green Card" Lottery. Eligible countries are determined by the INS through a mathematical formula based upon the number of the immigration population to the United States over the past 5 year period. The State Department's National Visa Center holds the lottery every year and chooses winners randomly from all qualified entries. The center chooses over 90,000 entries to insure that the maximum 50,000 entries will be selected. Those winners will be given the opportunity to apply for permanent residence. They will also be able to bring your spouse and any unmarried children under the age of 21 to the United States. Top


How do I know my eligibility for the Green Card Lottery?

Due to the high volume of lottery entries, all participating submission must past strict guidelines. All application will be instantly dismissed if they do not pass these guidelines. How do I enter the Green Card Lottery?

You may enter the green card lottery through our error-free (guaranteed) procedure. Fill out our online submission form, or our mail application form and also a photograph to the Immigration Service Center. Your application will be reviewed by our department and submitted to the National Visa Center for processing. Top


What does the term "native" mean?

"Native" means the country of birth, regardless of the individual's current country of residence or nationality. If you were born in a country which cannot participate in the Green Card Lottery, you can still enter the lottery if your spouse or one of your parents were born in an eligible country. For example, if you were born in Canada or the United Kingdom (both ineligible countries), but your husband/wife or one of your parents were born in Ireland (an eligible country), you can enter the Green Card Lottery. What does it mean to have a "high school education or its equivalent"?

"High School education or its equivalent" means the successful completion of a twelve year course of elementary and secondary education in the U.S. or successful completion in another county of a formal course of elementary and secondary education comparable to complete a 12 year education in the U.S. Top

What does it mean to have "two years work experience in an occupation requiring at least two years training or experience"?

The determination of which occupations require at least two years of training or experience shall be based upon the Department of Labor's O*Net Online database. The O*Net system is available online at http://online.onetcenter.org. Top


May a husband and wife each submit a separate application?

Yes. A husband and a wife may each submit one lottery application. If either is selected in the lottery, the other would be entitled to derivative status. Top


Is there a minimum age to apply for the lottery?

There is not a minimum age to apply for the lottery. However, the education/work experience requirements will effectively preclude most people under 18 from applying. Top


How will I know if I was selected or not selected?

The State Department will notify winners by mail between May and July. They will not notify applicants to let them know they were not selected. The only way you will know that you are not selected is if you have not received a registration notification letter before the date the INS officially states that it has stopped notifying people. Is there an application fee to enter the lottery?

No. There is no government application fee for submitting a lottery application. If you win the lottery, you will pay a special case processing fee later. Winners will also have to pay regular visa fees at the time of visa issuance.

What are the correct photo size and specifications?

The photograph must be between 1½ by 1½ to 2 by 2 square inches (37-50 mm), with the applicant’s, spouse's, or child's name and date of birth printed on the back. Applicant, spouse, or child must be directly facing the camera; the head of the person being photographed should not be tilted up, down or to the side, and should cover about 50% of the area of the photo. Photos may be either color or black and white.

  • The photo should be taken with the person being photographed in front of a neutral, light-colored background.
  • Photos taken with very dark or patterned, busy backgrounds will not be accepted.
  • Photos in which the face of the person being photographed is not in focus will not be accepted.
  • Photos in which the person being photographed is wearing sunglasses or other paraphernalia which detracts from the face will not be accepted.
  • Photos of applicants wearing head coverings or hats are only acceptable due to religious beliefs, and even then, may not obscure any portion of the face of the applicant.
  • Photos of applicants with tribal or other headgear not specifically religious in nature is not acceptable.
  • Photos of military, airline or other personnel wearing hats will not be accepted.

Do I need to send photographs of each family member and have each sign the application or just the principal applicant?

Recent photographs of the applicant and his/her spouse and each child except children who are already a U.S. citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident, even if a child no longer resides with the applicant, must be attached to the entry. The name and date of birth of each family member must be printed on the back of their photo. Group or family photos will not be accepted; there must be a separate photo for each family member. Photos should be attached with tape and not stapled to the entry. Top


How long will it take before the winners can emigrate to the U.S.?

The process can takes between 6-12 months. Top


Which countries cannot participate in the lottery?

Most countries are involved in the Green Card Lottery, but there are a few exceptions. The following countries are excluded from participating in this year's Green Card Lottery:

  • Canada
  • Jamaica
  • China (mainland-born) *
  • Mexico
  • Colombia
  • Pakistan
  • India
  • Russia
  • Dominican Republic
  • Philippines
  • El Salvador
  • South Korea
  • Haiti
  • United Kingdom and its dependent territories **
  • Vietnam

* Persons born in Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR and Taiwan are eligible.
** Northern Ireland is eligible.

Note: If we were born in a country which cannot participate in the Green Card Lottery, you can still enter the lottery if your spouse or one of your parents were born in an eligible country. For example, if you were born in Canada or the United Kingdom (both ineligible countries), but your husband/wife or one of your parents were born in Ireland (an eligible country), you can enter the Green Card Lottery. On the application form, put your spouse/parent country of birth as your "native country" and your country of birth as your country of birth. If you do qualify for the Green Card Lottery through your spouse/parent country of birth, there are two ways to enter the lottery. You can apply online or by mail.

Can I return my manual package and get 100% refund?

You may return your UNOPENED package for a 100% refund excluding shipping and handling fee. Any OPENED package can only be given 50% of refund excluding shipping and handling fee. If I wish to cancel my Green Card Lottery registration, how should I do it?

Since Green Card Lottery is a service we provide, after 2 months since the day of registration, there will be absolutely no refund. Please email us at support@dv-lottery-green-card-state.org regarding the refund. Unfortunately, if you cancel the service within 2 months, 10% of your application fee is taken out for service handling fees. If you canecl the registration within 24 hours of your registeration, no fee will be deducted. Top

How do I know if you receive my pictures?

Due to large amount of applicants we have, we are unable to email each applicant regarding the receiving of their pictures. You may, however, send us an email to ask about your application status. Usually, no further notification will be sent after the email that request for your pictures, unless you've been chosen as a winner for Green Card Lottery. Top
